I hate spraying any weed killer around my plants so I especially like your tip about placing newspaper under the mulch. I had not thought of that before. I regularly use mulch but still frequently get weeds. Using the newspaper should help with that I would think and it being biodegradable will help the soil too.

The tips on keeping the insects away really does work. The cayenne pepper seems to deter most of them at my house including the larger animals too. I have a mini organic herb garden in my house and they grow so well here. I am so excited to next year start composting and growing the outside organic garden. Good luck to all!!

I've tried the organic gardening this The problem has been that it requires much more frequent attention. Funy thing is the reason we started an organic garden is our kids (well, to produce healthier vegetables for our children). And it is the same reason we are having trouble keeping up with it. Th clasic catch 22!
