How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes-Naturally
Mosquitoes are, in many regions, the insect that is the most annoying. They are also bearers of diseases such as West Nile fever. For decades, homeowners who enjoy backyard entertaining have tried insecticides, repellents, and electric insect-killing machines with mixed success some of which come with their own little nasty health risks.
Here are some natural ways to defend yourself without resorting to the use of toxic chemicals:
* Use a Natural Mosquito Repelling Oil, such as citronella, lemon eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint, and cedar. Reapply at least every two hours.
* Control the Environment.
Moisture, CO2, dark colors, and fragrances, found in everything from perfumes to fabric softeners, are attractants. So keep your entertaining area dry for your dinner party, don’t light your fireplace when mosquitoes are most active ( dawn and dusk ), wear light-colored clothing, and keep your body and clothing fragrance free.
* Avoid Being a Target.
Lactic acid, produced when you’ve been working out, is an attractant, so cool down before heading outside.
* Use a Misting Fan in hot weather. These units produce a light fog that causes temperatures to drop and deters insects at the same time. Many units can be used to disperse natural insect repellents, including pyrethrum and citronella as well.
* Use Screening, another non-toxic way to keep mosquitoes at bay. In addition to conventional aluminum screening, which can be recycled, consider mosquito netting. It can be installed as curtains around open porches or detached structures, including gazebos.
* Use Insect Traps That work on mosquitoes but not on beneficial insects. One type uses propane to produce CO2 that the pests mistake for breath. When they arrive at the device, usually placed well away from the entertaining area, they’re vacuumed into a net where they dehydrate and die.
Remember A screened pavilion allows homeowners to enjoy their wooded setting even during the high season for mosquitoes.

I am all for anything that will help get rid of mosquitos. The problem is that I can’t stand the chemical sprays…and they seem to be the only thing that works. I heard about an all-natural bacteria or fungus that kills mosquitos and black flies only. It doesn’t affect any other insect or animal. Apparently entire towns in Canada (and Quebec) have used it and report up to 90% reduction in mosquitos. Anyone know anything about this?

Here if Florida they spray poison to kill the skeeters, but it kills the skeeter eaters, you know, birds, frogs, lizards, bats… It’s crazy, when will they learn?
