Yesterday, the whole tribe of ours decided to go around our neighborhood and do some cleaning up. And it was a real neat thing to see others out there doing basically the same thing. We met with this other family and started discussing how great it was that were out here instead of sitting on the couch at home. doing something to better our planet, and how it has rubbed off onto our kids…”It’s an awesome feeling!!”
I think it is extremely necessary to teach our children how to care for the Earth because it is their inheritance. We are raising Earth’s next care takers. We must take care of what we are passing down to future generations and make sure they have the tools to take over that care. We wouldn’t throw an untrained person into a job and expect it to turn out good. We have the tools and the knowledge to change our environmental crisis and we should be teaching that to our children.
I think one of the best ways of teaching our children to be good stewards of our planet is to be good stewards ourselves. We are our children’s best role model after all. We don’t (usually) allow our children to trash the house yet we trashing our planet, our home. What kind of message is that sending our children? I feel we need to give the Earth some TLC and make sure our kids are watching and understand why we do it. Open up communication, watch Wall-E with them, enlist their help. We are doing it for them after all.

What about the other way around? It makes me proud to see my mother go completely green, even now that my grandparents are following our ways. It really is just an awesome feeling.
I’m almost drunk on organic wine so I hope what I wrote makes since. Good blog by the way.

My daughter started an Earth Club at school. Needless to say she is only in 2nd grade and understands the important of recycle and reuse. Her main focus was getting a recycling can in the lunch room for all the kids to throw away their plastic bottles or anything else they had in their lunch boxes that could help. She and her friends also go around the neighborhood once a month and pickup garbage they see so there is hope out there for the future of our children. I think like you said that Wall-E is a great eye opener of what could happen if we don’t stop the chaos that is going on right now.
